Each of these topic could be a 1-3 session workshop or a presentation.
What Will You Do With the Next 20-30 Years of Your Life?
We'll benefit from the burgeoning literature describing the third age as a new period stretching from the late 40's-80's. We'll explore how to embrace these years with positivity and possibility rather than dread or fear. As William Sadler, author of Third Age, wrote: "If we hang on to old expectations, we are more likely than not to live down to them." This workshop will create the space to design the next chapter of your life embedded in the values you hold dear and the passions that animate your personality.
Having Conversations that Matter
Everyone's story matters...Most parents know the importance of telling children their own story, over and over again, so that they come to know in the tellings who they are and to whom they belong.
Rachel Naomi Remen, Kitchen Table Wisdom
What's the story in you that needs to be told? Who needs to hear it? What do you hope others will learn or take from your story? In the Middle Ages, people shared their stories, their beliefs, their values, their wisdom in the form of an Ethical Will; intending for their loved ones to read it after they were gone. Today, people have adapted this practice to be the catalyst for having conversations that really matter with their loved ones while they are still very much alive and vibrant.
In this 2 part workshop we'll use guided conversation, visualization and journal writing, to become clearer about the story we have to tell, the difference that story makes in our lives and how to share it with those we most love and care about.
I Hate Being Stressed!
These days, we know a lot about how to reduce stress, and we also know we're never going to be rid of it entirely. That wouldn't be human! BUT, we can have less of it and deal with it better when it shows up. In this workshop we'll explore a few coaching exercises that will equip us with tools we can use both at work and at home.
Staging Your Career Transition
Turns out there are actual stages we all go through as we're transitioning from one career to another. Building on the work of William Bridges' book Transitions, we'll learn about these stages; practice one of the strategies for moving through them and come away with concrete suggestions for successfully making this important transition in your life.
Seven Gateways to Spirituality, (based on The Soul of Education by Rachel Kessler)
What do we mean when we say "spirituality". Do we each mean the same thing? And if we knew what it meant, how would we know how to best access it in our lives?
Rachel Kessler, the director of The Institute for Social and Emotional Learning, recognized in her work with adolescents that there was a "spiritual problem" in our society. Though brilliant in economics, science and technology, we are as a culture less successful in matters of the heart and soul; as witnessed in our preoccupation with sex and violence, boredom and general unhappiness, all while being the richest society in modern history.
In this workshop we'll explore the Seven Gateways to Spirituality that can be found in ordinary experiences available to us each day. This workshop, as is true with her book, is not tied to any religious tradition. Rather, it is aimed at helping us connect to that part of ourselves that desires something we call "spirituality".
